The Finance Department ensures that all resources of the Borough of Kennett Square are managed and accounted for effectively and efficiently, and that all financial records are presented in a timely, accurate and meaningful format.
The Finance Department prides itself in delivering professional services to elected officials, municipal management, municipal departments and the public. This includes having proper controls and procedures in place to manage and protect the public’s resources.
Our financial reporting is recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. We are continuously working to improve and refine our financial reports.
The Borough of Kennett Square levies two types of taxes, Real Estate Taxes and 511 Taxes.
Real Estate Taxes
All property owners are responsible for all taxes on their property. Failure to receive a bill does not relieve the taxpayer from the responsibility to pay.
According to State Statute the Borough Council is able to levy up to 30 mills without court intervention. The current millage is 10.25. This works out to be $1,025.00 per $100,000 of property assessment.
Berkheimer Associates, a statewide tax collection firm, collects the Borough Real Estate Taxes.

The Borough of Kennett Square levies a 1% Earned Income Tax and a Local Services Tax which are considered 511 Taxes.
Local Tax Collection Procedures
The Chester Tax Collection Committee (CTCC) appointed Keystone Collections Group to serve as the Earned Income Tax (EIT) and Local Services Tax (LST) collector for school and municipal taxing authorities within Chester County. To e-file your EIT or LST please visit www.keystonecollects.com.
